SAS Architect

Data Architect to lead the migration of our SAS-based analytics platform to Microsoft Azure. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in SAS architecture, Azure cloud services, data engineering, and migration strategies. This role involves designing scalable data solutions, ensuring performance optimization, and driving the transformation of analytics workloads from an on-premise SAS environment to Azure.
Key Responsibilities
1. Migration Strategy & Architecture
Develop the end-to-end migration strategy for moving SAS workloads to Azure.
Design and implement the target data architecture in Azure, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
Assess existing SAS workloads and define an optimized data transformation and storage strategy in Azure.
2. Data Engineering & Integration
Work with Azure Data Services (Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, Databricks) to migrate and transform SAS datasets.
Define ETL/ELT pipelines for data movement and processing from on-prem SAS to Azure.
Ensure data integrity, governance, and compliance during migration.
3. Performance Optimization & Cost Efficiency
Optimize compute and storage resources for performance and cost efficiency in Azure.
Implement best practices for query performance tuning and workload orchestration.
Evaluate alternative analytical tools (e.g., Databricks, Synapse, Power BI) to replace SAS functionalities.
Required Skills & Experience
1. Data Architecture & Migration Expertise
8+ years of experience in data architecture and engineering, with a focus on cloud migrations.
Proven track record in migrating SAS environments to Azure (SAS Grid, SAS Viya, or SAS Base).
Experience in designing cloud-native data architectures using Azure Data Services.
2. Azure Cloud & Data Engineering
Strong expertise in Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure SQL, and Databricks.
Knowledge of data lake architectures and cloud storage (ADLS, Blob Storage).
Experience with ETL/ELT development, data transformation, and orchestration in Azure.
3. SAS & Alternative Technologies
Strong understanding of SAS programming, SAS Macros, PROC SQL, and SAS Data Management.
Familiarity with replacing SAS workflows using Python, PySpark, SQL, or R in Azure.
Knowledge of reporting and analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau, or SAS Visual Analytics).
Preferred Qualifications:
Microsoft Azure certifications (Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Data Engineer, or Azure AI Engineer).
SAS certifications (SAS Certified Advanced Programmer, SAS Data Integration Developer).
Experience in regulated industries (Insurance ).
